about
Mixing creative writing, voice training, and choreographic research, you will investigate the use of text and spoken words to influence and enhance performance, challenge the connection between language and body, text and movement.
In this experimental summer camp, you will start your day with meditation, yoga, or swimming in lake Balaton. Morning sessions will focus on creative writing, movement, and voice research, guided by compositional exercises and translation methods. In the afternoon you will use your texts, voice, body, and movement material to make text-based performances. For your evening presentation, you will also have the possibility to work with lights, costumes, scenography, and music. We also reserve specific times during the day for personal creative work, community sharing, and rest.
CREATIVE WRITING
In this summer camp you will focus on expressive writing and text-based art creation in many different forms. You can decide to write in your mother tongue or in English. Through different topics, you will have the opportunity to explore different types of poetry and prose styles, as well as responding to quotes, immersive experiences, audio-visual material, and archive. Strategies to develop your own style, personal aesthetic, to avoid "writer’s block" and the "fear of the white page" will be addressed. Participating in immersive experiences will give you space and time to discover contemporary authors, get inspired by their work, debate on ideas, develop critical thinking.
PERFORMING TEXTS AND WORDS
You will also regularly read your texts, and create a lecture performance or sound poetry piece alone or with your peers. You will investigate the use of dialogue, texts, words to influence and enhance performance, whether it is dance or physical theatre. You will discover non-canonical choreographers and visual artists using narrative texts, speech, prose, drama, poetry, or introducing abstract words, voice into their works. You will discuss the model of language and linguistics within dance and performance, challenge the connection between language and body, text and movement.
PUBLICATION
Following the camp, if you give us permission, your texts will be published online.
